Perpetua House is a school for special needs learners aged 12 years and older where they are educated with a curriculum which employs a more skills and career coaching approach to learning than is currently offered in schools. This is required to optimize the post school opportunities for these learners.
Our curriculum covers:
Numeracy and Literacy – at the level of each learner
Natural Science, Social Science & Life Skills – to broaden the general knowledge of our leaners
Career development – where we try and equip our learners with the skills necessary for life beyond school.
Within the Career Development we have:
- skill classes – introducing and working on general skills required for a host of job opportunities (including making beanies and beaded products which we sell to generate income)
- career classes – focussing on the social skills required in the work place
- job shadowing – where the learners spend time in real jobs
- baking – teaching the learners skills necessary to work in industrial kitchens
- Merrypak – learners go and work at Merrypak Packing for a few hours each week as job experience
Our school day is a full and enriching one including creative time for Art, Drama and weekly exercise sessions at The Kids Gym.
We hope to expose these learners to a wide range of skills so that the best and most informed decisions can be made regarding their post-school life.
We work closely with Mountain View Academy so that our learners are involved with the greater community, joining them for break time, school camps, sports day and a host of other extra curricula activities.

The learners we are educating at Perpetua House include those on the Autism Spectrum, children with Downs Syndrome, Pervasive Development Disorder and other barriers to learning.
Due to the nature of the learners and the education being provided, we need to keep our classes small and not only employ qualified educators, but also assistants. All fees paid by the parents goes directly towards the running costs of the school. These include the purchase of facilities, equipment, furniture, payment of salaries, monthly utilities, teaching equipment and consumables. Therefore, in order to keep these fees affordable we need a great deal of support from the community, whether it is via financial support (sponsorship) or donations of equipment.
We would love to get involved with the greater business community, not only through sponsorship, but also with job placement and assisting businesses with tasks we excel in like conference bag packing, labeling and such. Please do not hesistate to contact us for more information.
Perpetua House is regstistered with the South African Revenue Service as a Section 18A Public Benefit organisation, allowing us a tax exemption status. All donations made to Perpetua House are therefore tax deductable. We are also registered with the Department of Social Development as a Nonprofit organization.
